Building Green Council of Central Oregon™ The mission of the Building Green Council of Central Oregon is to make green building the norm for residential and commercial construction in Central Oregon. Green Building is "innovative building and site design techniques that improve the quality and performance of buildings while simultaneously reducing stress on the environment." Green Building is a whole systems approach to design, construction, and operation of buildings with three converging fundamental objectives: increase energy efficiency, improve indoor air quality and conserve natural resources.
Across the country, people are increasingly demanding these green values in new and remodeled homes as well as the commercial and public buildings in which they spend time. For some, the primary driver is energy savings and lower utility bills. For others, it’s knowing that homes are safer for children or work places more productive for employees. For still others it’s about preserving old growth forests or reducing global warming while insuring a sustainable supply of beautiful, highly functional building materials.
At the moment, about 54 percent of energy consumption in the United State is linked to buildings and their construction. Buildings account for 35 percent or more of CO2 emissions in the United States, one quarter of the world’s wood harvest and one sixth of the world’s freshwater withdrawals. Up to 30 percent of North American landfill space and is taken up by construction and demolition debris. All of these unsustainable rates of consumption/pollution can be greatly reduced—just by building differently—with far better air quality and lower operating costs in the bargain.
The Building Green Council of Central Oregon™ provides comprehensive information and contact with Central Oregon green building resources to give builders and homeowners the methods and materials to design and build this different, greener way.

Hayden Giving Fund In 1996 one of Hayden Homes Dedicated long-time employees began searching for ways the company and its employees could help local families in need. In the early years Hayden Homes and its employees supplied food baskets to the needy, brought holiday gifts for disadvantaged kids and offered financial assistance to families experiencing a medical crisis. In 1998 the Hayden Giving Fund, a 501(c)(3)non-profit organization was created.
Hayden Homes CEO Hayden Watson took the Hayden Giving Fund to the next level in 2002 when the Fund dedicated its first “Grant Home.” The Giving Funds Housing Grant program was established by Hayden Watson in loving memory of his father and mother, Robert and Virginia Watson, for their endless commitment to helping others. Robert, the founder of Hayden Homes, passionately believed that everyone needed and deserved a home.
One by one the Giving Fund has committed its self to keeping the passionate belief of Robert Watson alive by helping low-income families realize the dream of owning their own home. The Hayden Giving Fund still provides support to many charitable causes however; its primary purpose is the housing grant program.
These grants enable families and individuals a life-changing opportunity to own their own home through no-interest loans. The Hayden Giving Fund together with Hayden Homes, its employees and partners build dreams that these people may never have had a chance to realize. Classic Coverings and Design is a proud partner, providing window coverings to the recipients of the grant. BNI (Business Networking International) Both Dave Latimer and Carrie Steele are members of BNI chapters in Bend. Dave is the Education Chair for his group, and Carrie is the Secretary/Treasurer for her chapter. |
